One cloth, three weights, and a short list of things that will keep it looking right for years.
How it is made
One piece of fabric, folded once and joined with a single seam, with the rest left open. Nothing is cut. The fabric arrives at its finished width, so that one seam is the only sewing that happens.
The opening your head goes through is the gap left between the fold and the seam. That is why it is not a hole in the middle of a panel, why the piece cannot lie open flat, and why moving the seam changes the whole shape rather than just rotating a pattern.
Size and weight
About 26 by 36 inches as it hangs, from a piece that starts at roughly 26 by 72 inches before it is sewn. The lightweight styles start about a foot longer and hang closer to 26 by 42.
Each one weighs around 8 ounces, which is why it packs down to nothing. Bolts vary by an inch or two, so every piece is slightly its own. The flat measurement is the less useful of the two, because once the seam is sewn there is no edge left to lay out.
What it is made from
A soft woven blend, chosen for drape and hand feel above everything else. It holds color through a full season of markets.
The Cozy and Fuzzy style is different: viscose (bamboo) and acrylic in a thick waffle weave, cut shorter for warmth. The viscose is where the softness comes from, and the acrylic is what makes it durable and easy to wash. It is closer to a blanket than a scarf, and because it is sewn you can wear it like one without holding onto it.
Washing it
Hand washing is best. If you use a machine, cold water on a delicate cycle.
Lay flat to dry. No dryer. No dry cleaning.
Threading variations are not faults
Because the fabric is woven rather than printed, small deviations in the threading are natural. They are a characteristic of the cloth, and they are part of what tells you it was made by a person.
If a thread pulls
Do not cut it, and do not pull it out.
Take the fabric on either side of the pull and tug gently in every direction. The weave will draw the thread back in and settle flat. If a loop is still standing proud after that, snip it flush rather than short.
The main cause of pulls is jewelry. Rings, bracelets and watch clasps catch the weave, so it is worth taking a ring off before pulling one on.
